The purpose of this assignment is to apply your knowledge of the nature and extent of youth crime. With your understanding of this critical topic area, you will carefully analyse the real case scenario (The Case: R v Greg [2023] NSWChC 13 (DOCX 70 KB)).
Your analysis will be informed by a mind map, in which you deconstruct and build relationships between key concepts relating to the nature and the extent of youth crime. This assignment also asks you to draw on the essential readings for Modules 3 and 4.

Assignment details
Read through the following steps/information to understand and meet the requirements of this assignment.
Format: You will need to complete each of the steps and compile your mind map, analysis and references in the Assessment 1 Template
Step 1: Read the full judgement of the following case scenario and consider what it reveals about the nature and extent of youth crime.
The Case: R v Greg [2023] NSWChC 13
Step 2: Create a mind map on the nature and extent of youth offending.
To create your mind map, you must first ensure you have an accurate and comprehensive understanding of the topic: The nature and extent of youth offending. Review the essential readings, practitioner interviews, learning activities and your notes from Modules 3 and 4 to consolidate your understanding.
Then, return to the mind map you created in Module 4 on page 4.5 Activity: Mind mapping the nature and extent of youth offending. Ensure that your mind map is up-to-date and reflects your current understanding of the topic. This is your opportunity to tweak, edit and refine your map so that it is submission-ready!
Note: you can create your mind map using any tool or technology you are comfortable with. For example, Miro, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, or even pen and paper—provided you can submit your mind map as a file upload.
Step 3: Analyse the judgment outcome by identifying and applying at least one concept from your mind map to explain the judgement in the nominated case study.
Through your mind map, you will have drawn out essential concepts and ideas relating to the nature and extent of youth offending. Now, you are to apply at least one of these concepts to the case scenario. In this way, your mind map will inform your understanding of the offences committed by Greg, and help you to pull together your analysis.
Note: your written analysis should be 750 words (+/- 10%), including in-text citations. Your submission must include a copy of your mind map.
Key information
