Assessment information |
Student Toolbox Additional information to support you in completing training and assessment for units of competency from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package is provided in the Student Toolbox. If you haven’t read through the Toolbox lately, take a few moments to review it now. |
Assessment details This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to lead, manage and engage with a variety of teams working in the building and construction industry. Building and construction industry work teams may include subcontractors and employees, with cultural, competency or other diversities, who are engaged on the project for different periods of time and at different times. It includes liaising with team supervisors or leading hands to establish team objectives, maintain team performance and progress and achieve project quality. This unit of competency applies to builders, site supervisors and related construction industry professionals responsible for managing diverse work teams to complete projects to specifications and on time. This unit is suitable for those using specialised knowledge to complete routine and non-routine tasks and using their own judgement to deal with predictable and sometimes unpredictable problems. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Assessment for this unit comprises: a knowledge test a site diary incorporating knowledge questions, reflective journals and evidence collection . Templates are provided in this Workbook for you to work into. You should read through the templates before you get started and ensure that you are clear on what you need to do. Speak to your trainer, assessor or workplace supervisor if you have any questions. |
Co-assessment In some cases, this unit will be assessed alongside other units from the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. Your assessor will advise you if co-assessment is right for you and will talk to you about how this will take place. Keep in mind that, regardless of how and when assessment takes place, the skills and knowledge you are required to demonstrate for this unit don’t change. |

Site Diary ____________________________________________________ |
Task requirements In this task, you will demonstrate the skills and knowledge that you have developed during you training by leading and managing teams in the building and construction industry. This will include identifying team responsibilities, liaising with supervisors and managing team performance and progress on a construction worksite. The construction worksite should either be on a ‘live’ construction site (which may be in your own workplace or during a work placement) or in a simulated workplace at your RTO. If you will be completing your assessment in a simulated workplace at your RTO, your assessor will provide you with access to the plans and specifications for a building or simulated site along with the workplace policies and procedures for the site. To satisfy the requirements of the unit, you must have access to: three different teams (or simulated teams) with varying competency levels of workers. Each team requires a supervisor or leading hand . There must be diversity within and between teams an employee or subcontractor contract for at least one member of each team plans and specs for a building project a budget for the building project . Your assessor will support you to identify a building project which meets these needs. If you are working from a case study, you may wish to form suitable teams with your classmates. Site Diary As you lead and manage teams in the building and construction workplace that you have identified, you will complete a number of key tasks. For example: identifying and communicating team roles, responsibilities and accountabilities developing effective communication systems to track the progress of the project working with supervisors and leading hands to achieve quality work within set timeframes managing communication and solving issues and conflicts monitoring and managing the team's performance and progress. By reflecting on what you did in each of these tasks and gathering evidence of your work, you will satisfy the assessment requirements for this unit. A Site Diary Template is provided for you to work into and marking guidance is provided. The Site Diary is broken into four sections which are mapped against the skills and knowledge that you need to demonstrate. Each section of the site diary includes: a list of the skills and knowledge that you need to demonstrate a reflective journal with some questions for you to answer reminders to attach evidence with some suggestions for suitable examples provided in each case. In all sections of the site diary you will also find: knowledge questions. All interactions (including written) throughout this assessment must be business-like and consistent with organisational policies and procedures. You must correctly complete all parts of the Site Diary to be marked as satisfactory for this task. Tips for completing your Site Diary Remember that you will find information about completing reflective journals and written questions in your Student Toolbox. Read through all sections of the Site Diary before you get started and make sure that you are clear about what you need to do. Always work safely and report any safety concerns. Stay up-to-date with your documentation. Make sure that you ask your supervisor to complete each section of the Site Diary. Ensure that your evidence is complete and well organised. Use business-like language. |
