In this assignment, you will propose an original research study to address an issue or problem in the area of social psychology. Please note that the study will not actually be conducted. You will both write a research proposal and present your ideas in a video. You can use the same topic that you used for your Assignment 2: Report plan – Research proposal plan, taking into account any feedback you have received from your OLA.
This assignment supports Subject Learning Outcomes 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Use of generative artificial intelligence
In this assessment task, you will not be able to meet the learning outcomes related to a satisfactory demonstration of understanding of the learning materials by using generative artificial intelligence tools. Working with another person or technology in order to gain an unfair advantage in assessment or improperly obtaining answers from a third party, including generative AI, to questions in an examination or other form of assessment may lead to sanctions under the Student Misconduct Rule (Western Sydney University, 2023). Use of generative AI tools may be detected. More information is available on the Library web page Turnitin's AI writing detector (Library Study Smart, 2023).
If your studies have been adversely affected by circumstances beyond your control, you may request an extension using the following options.

Assignment details
There are two parts to this assignment. For Part 1, you need to write a research proposal. For Part 2, you need to present your research proposal to your OLA through video submission.
Part 1: Writing the research proposal
Your research proposal should include the following sections:
An Introduction section (which introduces the topic area and past relevant research).
A Methodology section that describes the research methods (that is, how the study would be conducted).
An Analysis Plan that describes the data analysis technique(s) that will be used to test the hypothesis(es).
A References section (which lists all of the sources cited in the proposal).
To assist you in preparing your research proposal plan you may wish to use Assignment 3: Research proposal template (DOCX 133KB).
Contact your OLA if you're unsure whether your topic is in the area of Social Psychology. You must also ensure that the proposal has not been submitted, including parts of the submission, for any other subject previously. It must be an entirely new submission.
The research proposal must follow the conventions for scholarly writing adopted in the 7th edition of the publication manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Your written research proposal must be submitted on Assignment 3: Report – Research proposal page.
Note: the reference list is not included in the word count.
Part 2: Recording your video
Record yourself presenting the main points of your research proposal. You must record yourself using Canvas Studio. Your video must be two minutes in duration.
For information on how to use Canvas Studio read the instructions on 0.2 How to succeed in this subject.
Your written video presentation must be submitted on Assignment 3: Research report video submission page.
